Retail Merchants of Hawaii was founded in 1901 and is a state-wide, not-for-profit trade association committed to the growth and development of the retail industry in Hawaii. The Company not the individual is the member of the Retail Merchants of Hawaii and all of its Hawaii based employees may take advantage of the RMH Members ONLY Benefits 

RETAIL MEMBER.  Retail Member shall be a licensed retail establishment within the State of Hawaii whose core business is to sell consumer goods directly to the end consumer via storefront, catalog, television or online. The Retail establishment has met the requirements of the Retail Merchants of Hawaii and are approved by the Board of Directors.  They shall be represented by such person as may be designated by that retail establishment. Such representatives shall be called “Retail Members,” and shall have the right to hold office in the Association and vote at all meetings of the membership.

SHOPPING CENTER.  Shopping Center members shall be a management entity for a group of retail or other commercial establishment that is planned, developed, owned and managed as a single property, typically with on-site parking provided.  Shopping Center members shall have the rights and privileges of Retail members, but shall not have the right to hold any office in the Association.

WHOLESALE MEMBER. Wholesale members shall be licensed wholesalers within the State of Hawaii whose core business is to sell and/or distribute durable and non-durable goods directly to a retailer, commercial, institutional, another wholesaler or other professional business that is not a standard consumer.  They shall be represented by such person as may be designated by that wholesale establishment. Such representatives shall be called “Wholesale Members,” and vote at all meetings of the membership. Wholesale members shall have the rights and privileges of Retail members, but shall not have the right to hold any office in the Association.

ALLIED MEMBER.  Allied members are supportive, interested in improving and providing a service to the retail industry and supplies services to the Retail Industry. Allied members shall have the rights and privileges of Retail Members, but shall not have the right to hold any office in the Association except that an Allied member may hold the office of Treasurer.

ASSOCIATE MEMBER.  Associate Member shall be a person who has been in the retail business or any person who has been a representative for a RMH member Allied company, but who has retired from the workforce.  Associate Members shall not have the right to vote or to hold any office in the Association. 

SPECIAL MEMBER. The Board of Directors may invite as special members those persons who render a service to the Retail industry or to other retail organizations that the Board of Director deems vital to the advancement of the Retail Merchants of Hawaii. Special members shall not have the right to vote or hold office, and shall not be required to pay fees. Such membership shall remain in effect only so long as the person remains active in the field from which they were chosen.

HONORARY MEMBER. The Board may confer honorary membership on any person who shall have rendered some distinguished service to the Association. Honorary members shall have all the rights and privileges of Retail members, except the right to vote and hold office. Honorary members may be dropped from the rolls at any time by the Board of Directors. Honorary members shall not be required to pay fees.
